The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Luwero District Ball Games II Championship is set to get underway on June 10, 2026, with hundreds of student-athletes expected to compete across various sporting disciplines as school’s battle for qualification to the national championships.

The district competitions will be hosted across three venues, with St Mary’s Secondary School Zirobwe serving as the main host, co-hosted by Bulemeezi Secondary School and Bugema University.

According to the competition schedule, St Mary’s Secondary School Zirobwe will host netball, volleyball, and lacrosse competitions. Bulemeezi Secondary School will stage the mind games and handball events, while Bugema University basketball courts will host the basketball 3×3 and U-17 basketball championships.

The U-17 football tournament will be held separately from June 18 to 20, 2026, at St Andrew’s Secondary School Kasaala.

The district championships serve as qualifiers for the national USSSA Ball Games II Championships, which are scheduled to take place in Gulu City from July 8 to July 18, 2026.

This year’s national games are expected to attract more than 5,000 student-athletes from across Uganda and will be hosted by Sacred Heart Secondary School as the main venue, with Gulu High School serving as co-host.

The competition will feature a wide range of disciplines under the U-14, U-17, and U-20 categories.

Among the major disciplines on the programme are U-14 CAF Football, U-17 Football, U-17 Basketball, U-20 Basketball 3×3, Volleyball, Netball, Handball, Rugby 7s, Futsal, Cricket, Athletics, Cross Country, Lacrosse, Beach Soccer, Beach Volleyball, Baseball, Softball, Baseball 5, Chess, Ludo, Scrabble, Woodball, and DanceSport.

The games will also feature demonstration sports including Golf, Kabaddi, Kho Kho, Pickleball, and Darts.

The best-performing teams and athletes from each discipline will earn the opportunity to represent Uganda at the 2026 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations (FEASSA) Games, which will be hosted in Morogoro City, Tanzania.

Speaking to WallnetNews Digital, USSSA-Luwero District Chairman Nicholas Mubiru confirmed that preparations for the district championships have been completed and all participating teams are ready for competition.

“All teams are set for the championships. We call upon participants to keep time and adhere to the USSSA rules and regulations. Discipline remains key in sports and we expect all schools to uphold the values of fair play throughout the competitions,” Mubiru said.

He expressed confidence that the games will provide a platform for talent identification and development while promoting healthy competition among schools within the district.

The district championships are expected to showcase some of Luwero’s finest young sporting talent as schools seek qualification spots for the national finals in Gulu.

Last year’s USSSA Ball Games II Championships were hosted by St Peter’s College Tororo, with Tororo Girls School serving as co-host in Tororo Municipality.

With qualification opportunities for the national championships and eventual representation at the FEASSA Games at stake, the stage is set for an exciting and highly competitive USSSA-Luwero District Ball Games II championship.
