Kho Kho Uganda President Mustapha Nsubuga has outlined an ambitious roadmap for the sport’s growth after the successful hosting of the federation’s first General Assembly, which brought together delegates from 91 districts across the country at Kyambogo College School.

Speaking in an interview with Wallnetnews Digital, Nsubuga highlighted several milestones that Kho Kho Uganda has achieved in recent years, pointing to Uganda’s impressive performance at the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup as one of the federation’s greatest accomplishments.

Uganda’s national women’s team made history by winning a bronze medal at the global tournament, placing the country among the emerging powers in the sport and raising Uganda’s profile on the international stage.

“Our participation in the Kho Kho World Cup and the bronze medal won by the national team demonstrated that Uganda can compete with the best in the world. It was a proud moment for the country and a clear indication that the sport is growing rapidly,” Nsubuga said.

The Kho Kho Uganda President also underscored the federation’s strong commitment to grassroots development, revealing that more than 900 coaches have been trained across the country through various capacity-building programs.

According to Nsubuga, the training of coaches has played a crucial role in expanding the sport’s footprint, strengthening technical expertise, and creating a sustainable pathway for talent identification and development.

“We have invested heavily in training coaches because they are the backbone of the sport. With over 900 coaches trained, we are building a strong foundation that will help us identify and nurture talent from the grassroots to the national level,” he noted.

Looking ahead, the newly elected executive has set ambitious targets for the next five years aimed at elevating Uganda’s status in international Kho Kho.

Among the federation’s key priorities is improving Uganda’s performance at future world competitions by upgrading from bronze to silver and ultimately gold medal status.

The leadership also plans to establish a permanent home for Kho Kho Uganda, expand the sport to all districts across the country, strengthen governance structures, and increase participation in schools and communities.

Nsubuga said the federation is committed to ensuring that every district in Uganda has access to the sport as part of a broader strategy to promote inclusivity and widen the talent pool.

The successful General Assembly marked a defining moment in the history of Kho Kho Uganda and signaled the beginning of a new era for the sport.

Delegates from 91 districts participated in the assembly, reflecting the growing national reach and popularity of Kho Kho across Uganda.

Among the key resolutions passed was the adoption of the Kho Kho Uganda Constitution, with several amendments incorporated following extensive discussions and recommendations from delegates.

The Assembly also approved the federation’s annual budget, with amendments designed to strengthen operations, enhance service delivery, and support the implementation of strategic priorities.

Nsubuga said the resolutions adopted during the Assembly would provide a solid framework for governance, accountability, and sustainable development of the sport.

“The Assembly demonstrated the unity and commitment of our members towards the growth of Kho Kho. We now have a clear direction and a strong governance framework that will guide us as we work towards achieving even greater success,” he said.

The newly elected leadership emerged from the Assembly with a renewed sense of purpose, while delegates pledged to work together to strengthen the sport at all levels.

With growing participation in schools, expanding district representation, increasing international exposure, and a clear strategic vision, Kho Kho Uganda believes it is well positioned to become one of the country’s fastest-growing sports disciplines.

As preparations continue for future continental and global competitions, the federation remains focused on building on its recent achievements and positioning Uganda as a leading force in international Kho Kho.

The first General Assembly at Kyambogo College School will be remembered as a landmark event that laid the foundation for stronger governance, sustained growth, and greater success for Kho Kho Uganda both nationally and internationally.
