Uganda’s young table tennis talents, Patience Anyango and Joseph Sebatindira, are set to represent the country at the WTT Youth Contender Helsingborg 2026, with their sights firmly set on making a mark on the international stage and competing for a share of the tournament’s USD 1,000 prize pool.

The prestigious World Table Tennis (WTT) youth event is taking place from June 4 to June 7, 2026, at the Helsingborg Arena in Helsingborg, Sweden, bringing together some of the world’s most promising young players across various age categories.

Organized under the World Table Tennis (WTT) framework, the competition provides a valuable platform for emerging stars to test themselves against elite international opposition while gaining crucial experience in high-level competition.

For Uganda, the participation of Anyango and Sebatindira represents another significant milestone in the country’s growing presence on the global table tennis scene.

In the singles events, Patience Anyango has been drawn in Group 2 of the U13 Girls’ Singles and Group 3 of the U15 Girls’ Singles. Meanwhile, Joseph Sebatindira will compete in Group 1 of the U13 Boys’ Singles and Group 5 of the U15 Boys’ Singles.

The Ugandan pair begin their campaign in the U15 Mixed Doubles competition, where they will face Swedish duo Alicia Enbom and Erik Kogerfelt in the Round of 32. The match is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Table 1.

The tournament presents an important opportunity for both players to showcase their abilities against some of the best youth players from around the world while gaining exposure to different styles of play and international competition environments.

Their participation is a reflection of the continued efforts by Ugandan clubs and development structures to nurture young talent. In particular, Nakasero Table Tennis Club has played a significant role in supporting the growth of promising athletes through structured training programs, mentorship, and competitive exposure.

The appearance of Anyango and Sebatindira on the international stage further highlights the growing strength, potential, and visibility of Ugandan table tennis within the global sporting community.

As they compete in Sweden, the duo carries the hopes of Uganda’s table tennis fraternity, which continues to celebrate the progress of young athletes breaking onto the international scene.

Their journey serves as an inspiration to aspiring players across the country and demonstrates that with dedication, proper training, and exposure, Ugandan athletes can compete alongside the world’s best.

The Uganda Table Tennis Association, clubs, coaches, and supporters have wished Patience Anyango and Joseph Sebatindira success as they proudly fly the national flag at the WTT Youth Contender Helsingborg 2026 and continue inspiring the next generation of table tennis players back home.
