Ministers-designate have pledged to contribute towards the achievement of government priorities and national development targets during their tenure in office.
The commitments were made on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, as the ministers appeared before Parliament’s Committee on Appointments for vetting on the second day of the exercise. The committee is chaired by Speaker Rt. Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth.
The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs-designate, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, pledged to strengthen engagement with member states of the East African Community (EAC) and encourage them to fulfill their financial obligations to the regional bloc as required under the EAC Treaty.
Kadaga observed that the EAC continues to rely heavily on contributions from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda, while several other partner states have not consistently met their financial commitments.
She revealed plans to visit various EAC capitals to lobby for increased support and commitment from member states, emphasizing that all countries benefit from the services and opportunities provided by the Community.
“All partner states benefit from the East African Community and should therefore contribute towards its sustainability and growth,” Kadaga said.
The Minister of State for Mineral Development-designate, Hon. Phiona Nyamutoro, pledged to promote the sustainable development of Uganda’s mineral resources to ensure they deliver tangible benefits to citizens and contribute to national prosperity.
She said the country’s natural resources present enormous opportunities for economic transformation and job creation if properly managed and regulated.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Energy and Mineral Development-designate, Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero, committed to prioritizing increased access to electricity across the country, addressing delays in oil production, and streamlining regulatory frameworks within the minerals sector.
Dr. Musenero said her focus would be on accelerating key projects while ensuring that Uganda fully benefits from its energy and mineral resources.
The Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development (Planning)-designate, Hon. Amos Lugoloobi, highlighted the importance of effective planning in achieving Uganda’s long-term development aspirations.
He noted that Uganda’s National Development Plans have progressively evolved and are increasingly aligned with continental development initiatives, particularly under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Lugoloobi called for stronger cooperation among African countries in pursuit of shared economic goals and regional integration.
He further pledged to strengthen planning and implementation mechanisms to support the realization of Uganda Vision 2040, including the government’s ambition of growing the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from approximately US$60 billion to US$500 billion.
The ministers also commended the Committee on Appointments for what they described as a friendly, professional, and constructive vetting process.
