
Flags Fly At Half-Mast As Country Mourns Speaker Oulanyah

President Yoweri Museveni has directed that all flags in the country fly at half-mast from today until the burial of the Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah.
In an additional condolence message, Museveni expressed condolences of his family and of all Ugandans to the children of Oulanyah and to his wider family.
He promised that government and the NRM where Oulanyah served as Vice Chairman for Northern Uganda will always stand with them
“…I direct that the flags in Uganda fly at half- masts until the burial of the Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah. This is provided for in the official burials’ procedures.
More will be said and communicated as we go along,” the President wrote in a statement published on Monday.
FULL STATEMENT
Countrymen and Countrywomen
Yesterday, at about 12.40pm, it was my sad duty to announce the untimely death of our Speaker, the Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, MP for Omoro.
Today, I add the following:
1. I extend my condolences, the condolences of my family and of all Ugandans to the children of Oulanyah and to his wider family. The government and the NRM will always stand with them. I will say more about Rt. Hon. Oulanyah in the coming days.
2. Secondly, I have activated the National Organizing committee, under the Hon. Babalanda, to organise the official burial of the Late Speaker. They know what to do.
3. Thirdly, I direct that the flags in Uganda fly at half- masts until the burial of the Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah. This is provided for in the official burials’ procedures.
More will be said and communicated as we go along.
