The National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer in the Kikuube District LC5 by-election, Paddy Kisembo, has expressed confidence that he will emerge victorious, citing the ruling party’s overwhelming support and strong grassroots structures across the district.
Speaking to the media after conducting campaign activities in Kiziranfumbi Sub-county and Kikuube Town Council, Kisembo said the NRM remains the dominant political force in the district and is well-positioned to retain the seat despite the limited campaign period provided by the Electoral Commission.
“NRM is a mass party. I am confident and well prepared for this election despite the limited time given by the Electoral Commission to campaign,” Kisembo said.
He revealed that campaign teams have been deployed throughout the district to mobilize support and ensure that the party’s message reaches every village and community.
“We are using robust teams to carry our clear, coherent and consistent messages. We believe that by structuring our campaign in this manner, we should be able to reach everyone in their localities within the limited campaign time and space,” Kisembo explained.
The NRM candidate also called for peaceful campaigns and urged all stakeholders to maintain calm throughout the electoral process.
“The NRM cannot resort to violence since it commands the biggest number of members,” he said.
The NRM Director for Mobilization, Dr. Rosemary Seninde, also expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the by-election, saying the political landscape in Kikuube strongly favors the ruling party.
“What gives me confidence is that over 90 percent of the voting population is NRM. They have been electing NRM leaders, President Museveni, and NRM representatives at all levels of leadership in Kikuube District,” Seninde said.
She noted that the district council, sub-county councils, and parish councils are largely dominated by NRM leaders, a factor she believes will translate into victory on polling day.
“My appeal is to urge residents to turn up in large numbers on Thursday and cast their votes,” she added.
According to Seninde, the reception from local residents has been encouraging, with many expressing support for the party’s candidate.
“The reception from the people has been very positive and encouraging. I hope we all remain strong, committed and determined to win together,” she said.
NRM Electoral Commission Commissioner Hon. Jane Alisemera also expressed satisfaction with the response from voters during the campaign period.
“The population is positively responding to our message. They have assured us of support and mobilisation in areas that we may not physically reach, to ensure that NRM wins convincingly,” Alisemera said.
The Kikuube LC5 by-election has attracted significant political attention, with the NRM determined to retain its dominance in the district as campaigns enter the final stages ahead of polling day.
