The construction of the new semi-Olympic swimming pool at Teso College Aloet in Soroti City is nearing completion, with the first phase of the project now estimated at 95 percent complete.

The UGX 2 billion facility, being constructed by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineering Brigade in partnership with Oasis Aquatics Uganda Limited, is expected to significantly boost swimming development and aquatic sports in the Teso sub-region and beyond.

The modern facility features a 25×25-metre competition swimming pool complemented by a 25×3-metre warm-up pool, making it one of the most significant swimming infrastructure investments in Eastern Uganda.

According to project supervisors, major works under the first phase have been successfully completed. These include tile fitting, installation of lighting systems, water inlets, and pumping machinery.

Workers are currently undertaking the final finishing touches on the drainage channel that will direct water into the balancing tank, bringing the project closer to operational readiness.

The facility is expected to provide a world-class environment for swimming competitions, athlete training, talent identification, and recreational activities, while positioning Soroti City as a potential host for regional and national swimming events.

Officials say the project is progressing according to schedule and will soon enter its second phase, which will focus on the construction of supporting infrastructure necessary for the full operation of the facility.

Phase Two will include the construction of changing rooms, shower facilities, public toilets, and a perimeter wall to enhance security and improve the overall user experience.

Once completed, the swimming complex is expected to become a major sports development hub in the region, offering opportunities for schools, clubs, and communities to participate in competitive swimming and aquatic activities.

The project reflects the growing commitment to expanding sports infrastructure across Uganda and creating opportunities for young athletes to develop their talents using modern facilities.

Residents, sports stakeholders, and education leaders in the Teso sub-region talking to wallnetnews digital have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the facility will help nurture future swimming champions while promoting healthy lifestyles and sports tourism in Soroti City.
