Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) and Commonwealth Games Uganda (CGU) President Dr. Donald Rukare has paid a courtesy visit to the national boxing team, the Bombers, during their morning training session at the Hockey Grounds in Lugogo as preparations for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games intensify.

Dr. Rukare was accompanied by Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) President Moses Muhangi and members of the federation’s executive committee as he interacted with the boxers and technical team ahead of the continental showpiece scheduled for next month in Glasgow, Scotland.

During the visit, Dr. Rukare encouraged the boxers to remain focused and disciplined as they prepare to represent Uganda on the international stage. He also briefed the team on key issues including match manipulation, sexual harassment, anti-doping regulations, media engagement, and the importance of maintaining professionalism throughout the Games.

Uganda will send a team of six boxers to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, with the Bombers aiming to continue the country’s proud boxing tradition at the global event.

Speaking after the training session, Dr. Rukare expressed his excitement about joining Team Uganda’s preparations.

“I was happy to be able to join the Bombers training session this morning at Lugogo. The team is training hard, and we encourage them to remain firmly focused on participating in Glasgow 2026. Thank you to UBF President Mr. Moses Muhangi and his team for the collaboration. We look forward to welcoming Team Uganda to Glasgow in July,” Dr. Rukare said.

UBF President Moses Muhangi appreciated the visit, describing it as a motivation boost for the team as they enter the final stages of preparation.

Muhangi told Wallnetnews Digital that the support and engagement from the UOC/CGU leadership demonstrates the importance of unity among sports stakeholders in ensuring Team Uganda is fully prepared for international competition.

Earlier in the morning, Dr. Rukare also joined the Uganda swimming team during their training session as they continued preparations for the Glasgow Games.

After taking part in the swimming session, Dr. Rukare praised the athletes for their commitment and encouraged them to stay focused.

“Still recovering from the 2K session. Wishing the team all the best, keep focused and see you in Glasgow,” he said.

The visits form part of the UOC/CGU leadership’s efforts to engage with national teams, provide guidance, and ensure Uganda’s athletes are well prepared both technically and mentally ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
