The Association of Secondary School Head Teachers of Uganda (ASSHU) is set to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at St Catherine Girls School in Lira, marking a significant milestone under the leadership of its current President, Hajjat Zulaika Nabukeera.

The decision to hold the assembly was reached during the National Executive Committee meeting held on June 12th at the ASSHU headquarters, GNS Plaza, Level 2, Old Kampala Road, opposite Gaddafi National Mosque. The meeting was chaired by ASSHU President Hajjat Zulaika Nabukeera, who is also the Head teacher of Masaka Secondary School.

The AGM is scheduled for August 26th–27th, 2026, and will be the first annual general meeting organized under the leadership of Hajjat Nabukeera since she was elected ASSHU President in 2025.

Since its establishment, ASSHU has grown into a strong professional body bringing together both government and private secondary schools across Uganda. The association focuses on strengthening leadership, promoting collaboration, benchmarking, and improving the quality of secondary education in the country.

Under Hajjat Nabukeera’s leadership, ASSHU continues to champion a vision centered on excellence in education, transformative leadership, innovation, and collective efforts aimed at raising standards within Uganda’s secondary education sector.

Hajjat Zulaika Nabukeera, formerly the Head teacher of Nabisunsa Girls School, was elected ASSHU President after securing 445 votes against Saul Sekanjako who received 120 votes during the association’s annual elective meeting held at Masaka Secondary School in 2025.

Following her election, Nabukeera outlined key priorities for her three-year term, including amendment of the association’s constitution and construction of the ASSHU leadership centre in Bombo.

“I want to thank the members who overwhelmingly voted for me. We have five key priorities we intend to work on in the three-year period,” Nabukeera said in an interview with Wallnetnews Digital after her election.

She explained that reviewing the constitution was necessary after identifying several areas that needed improvement to strengthen the association’s operations and governance structures.

The upcoming AGM is expected to provide a platform for school leaders from across the country to review progress, discuss challenges affecting secondary education, and develop strategies for strengthening the sector.

The Lira AGM is expected to bring together secondary school leaders, education stakeholders, and partners as ASSHU continues its mission of strengthening professional leadership and improving education outcomes across Uganda.

The ASSHU Executive Committee (2025–2028) is composed of: President: Hajjat Zulaika Nabukeera, 1st Vice President: Chris Opoka, 2nd Vice President: Jackqueline Kalule (Unopposed), General Secretary: John Ngirabakunzi, Assistant General Secretary: Amanda Celia (Unopposed), Treasurer: Hajjat Rehema Kisitu, Publicity Secretary: Luke Emuron and Assistant Publicity Secretary: Morris Okunu
