Thousands of residents and political leaders from Ntungamo District and other parts of Western Uganda gathered at Rubaare Playground in Rushenyi County last weekend for a Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Baraza, during which Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba was officially endorsed as a preferred candidate for the 2031 presidential election.
The event was disrupted by heavy rainfall that persisted throughout the day. However, despite the challenging weather conditions, the programme continued, culminating in Muhoozi’s endorsement by PLU officials, political and religious leaders, and members of the public.
The exercise was presided over by PLU Vice Chairman Michael Toyota Kaguta, who served as the chief guest. He was accompanied by Secretary General Fadil Twala, Deputy Director of Mobilisation Henry Mutegeki Basaliza, and other mobilisers from various regions. They joined Ntungamo PLU leaders and local residents at the playground to witness the event.
The Ntungamo mobilisation drive was coordinated by Jonan Muhumuza, the district’s PLU coordinator.
About ten Members of Parliament attended the function, including Rushenyi County MP Naome Kabasharira, Ntungamo District Woman MP Viola Namanya Buroko, Ruhaama County MP Beatrice Rwakimari, Kajara County MP Hunter James Byenjeru, Nyabushozi County MP Wilson Kajwengye, and Lwemiyaga County MP Gen. Rwashande, among others.

Addressing the gathering, PLU Vice Chairman Toyota urged party cadres and mobilisers to uphold unity and discipline among supporters and the general public.
He emphasised that discipline should be central to the organisation’s mobilisation efforts, arguing that responsible conduct would help attract more Ugandans to the PLU.
Toyota also called on MPs and local leaders to lead by example as they promote Muhoozi’s presidential ambitions, urging them to advance messages that unite communities rather than divide them.
He further encouraged Ugandans to take collective responsibility for safeguarding peace and fighting corruption, saying these values should remain a priority for every citizen.
Kajara County MP Hunter James Byenjeru urged Ugandans, particularly residents of Kajara, to support what he described as a positive direction for the country’s political transition.

Byenjeru asked the people of Ntungamo to preserve the country’s values and foundation, noting that President Yoweri Museveni hails from the district and arguing that Muhoozi, whom he also linked to the area, should be considered for the country’s top office.
He expressed confidence in Muhoozi’s leadership abilities, saying he believed the PLU chairman had the capacity to lead Uganda.
