Dr Mulindwa to flag off Boys’ U-15 football team to Kenya

Dr Lawrance Mulindwa the executive director Vipers sports club and St Marys secondary school -Kitende (SMASK) will  today, (Thursday) December 7th 2023 flag off the school football team Under 15 to Nairobi, Kenya.

St Marys secondary school -Kitende will compete in the Cecafa zonal Pan Africa schools championship qualifiers to be held in Nairobi, Kenya from December 10th to 13th 2023 at Kasarani Annex Stadium.

Ronald Mulajje, the schools games teacher, said the team has prepared enough to compete at zonal and continental level. He said the players are now more confident than in the past, something he said has come as a result of playing tough times.

“We have assembled the best  team and are more than ready to face off with zonal giants. They are confident because they have faced tough teams during the friendly matches, and I believe we shall triumph,” said Mulajje.

“The competition we are going to is  not only about St Mary’s -Kitende, but Uganda as a whole. When you go to these competitions, know you are representing Uganda. Before and after anymatch we  put God first when going in these competitions and work towards winning,” he added.

It Should be noted that St Mary’s -Kitende is one of the schools that its administration is prioritising sports and they do all what it takes putting a lot of emphasis in promoting sports to cater for the youth.
“I have  always urged my  players to have discipline, consistency and hard work. This will take them far. Those values are key in anyone’s success,” he added.

St Mary’s -Kitende  competed in National Schools Competitions where they emerged victorious after battling it out with  another top side in school football  Amus college school -Bukedea in the final by 1-0.

The winners in Nairobi will represent the Council for East African Central African Football Association – Cecafa zone at the African Schools Football Championship.

Besides winning a slot to represent the Cecafa Zone – the best teams will also smile away with $100,000, while the runners-up will take $75, 000 and bronze medallists $50, 000.

However, the Somali Football Federation (SFF) has confirmed that they will field a team in the CECAFA Zonal CAF African Schools Football Championship qualifiers in Nairobi, Kenya.

Yusuf Mossi, the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Competitions Director confirmed that the Somali FA communicated that they will field a boys team. ” We are happy that Somalia will also send a team to the schools tournament, ” added Mossi.

The competition which will be played for U-15s will attract both boys and girls will take place December 10th -13th 2023 at the Kasarani Annex Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.

Mossi disclosed that although Eritrea, Sudan and South Sudan had earlier indicated they would send a team, they will not be able to take part.

The boys category will have six teams ; Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Somalia, while the girls category will have Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. ” We are confident we shall have a more competitive Championship since teams have had enough teams to prepare, ” added Mossi.

He said eleven boys teams and seven for girls will compete in the Championship with the champion in each category to represent the Zone at the Africa Schools Championship expected to take place in April next year.
