2023 East African Community Inter-Parliamentary games underway

The 13th edition of the East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Games got underway in Kigali, Rwanda with the official opening of the 2023 games on Friday at Kigali Pele Stadium.

The games will see six East Africa community partner states like Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan, Burundi and the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

In this years edition, the competition will feature eight sports disciplines; football, netball, athletics, tug-of-war, volleyball, walk race, golf, basketball, and darts, happening from December 8th to 18th, revolving around the theme: “For a progressive, peaceful, and all-inclusive EAC, the venues for each sport: football (Kigali Pele Stadium), basketball (Lycee de Kigali Gymnasium), netball and volleyball (Ecole Notre Dame des Angels), athletics and walk race (Bugesera Stadium, darts (HillTop Hotel), Golf (Kigali Golf Club) and tug-of-war will take place at IPRC Kicukiro.

One needs to understand that the games play a fundamental part in enabling EALA’s interaction with Members of the National Parliaments in the Partner States as envisaged in Article 49 of the Treaty for the Establishment of EAC.

Meanwhile, as the 13th Inter-parliamentary games in Kigali enter day two, the game between Uganda and South Sudan has been called off after the Juba-based legislators accused Uganda of failing to verify their players’ true credentials.
