
Vipers SC Off To Congo Brazzaville

The Uganda Super league champions, Vipers Sports Club 19-man squad off to Congo Brazzaville for the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round with Central African Republic (CAR) outfit Olympic Real De Bangui on Saturday.
The Venoms’ departed Entebbe International Airport this morning for a one day stopover camp in Kigali, Rwanda before leaving tomorrow (Friday), September 9th for the match that will be played in Congo Brazzaville, their fourth appearance in the competition.
The first leg at Stade Alphonse Massamba Debat on Saturday evening will be followed by a return clash at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende next Saturday (September 17).
Yunus Sentamu who has been out for a week and still recovering from malaria misses out while Paul Mucureezi who suffered from a foot fracture returns to training.

Vipers SC are seeking to better their performance on the continent having failed to reach the group stages in all the previous five attempts and to strengthen they made several signings in a bid to bolster the squad with the focus put on CAF Champions League.
The new arrivals include Joseph Marvin Youngman, Abdul Lawal, Issa Mubiru, Murushid Jjuko and Abdu Lumala among others. The winner on aggregate will advance to the second round where TP Mazembe from DR Congo awaits.
If the Venoms make it past Mazembe, they will enter history books as the second Ugandan team to enter group CAF Champions’ League group stages, an honor that has been achieved by only KCCA FC, but a defeat at the second round will see Vipers drop down to CAF Confederation Cup playoff stage.

Defenders: Murushid Juuko, Livingstone Mulondo, Dissan Galiwango, Hilary Mukundane, Isa Mubiru and Ashraf Mandela.
Midfielders: Abdu Lumala, Bright Anukani, Marvin Joseph Youngman, Siraje Sentamu, Olivier Osomba, Ibrahim Orit and Abdu Karim Watambala.
Forwards: Cromwel Rwothomio, Milton Karisa, Najib Yiga and Abubakar Lawal.
