Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago hosts Christmas carols, honors children with disabilities

City Hall Kampala was aglow with festive spirit as the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, hosted the annual Christmas Carols and tree Lighting.
The occasion was a celebration of the holiday season and was also a touching tribute to children with disabilities.
The Lord Mayor and City Leaders had a joyous moment with many children with disabilities who were invited to the event as special guests.
The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, who was the chief celebrant at the occasion, commended, the Lord Mayor and the City leadership for organizing such an eventful ceremony.
He expressed his distress at seeing children being used on the streets for begging and emphasized the need for compassion and action to stop the Vice of exploitation of children, stating that,  “We need to be compassionate and stop using children for our own interests. We need to fight this abuse. We need to start acting, talk less but do more. Jesus did not talk much but acted a lot.”
The Archbishop challenged City residents to utilize the Christmas season positively stating, “We need a neat city, we need a clean city. Let this Christmas help us to be clean outside and inside for the good of our country.”
Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, in his address, shared the city’s commitment to inclusivity.
He highlighted the limited number of schools for special needs children and informed gathering that the City will soon enact an Ordinance to Protect the Rights of PWD.
He further stated that he is cognizant of some challenges between the City Schools and faith based founding bodies most especially in regard to land and stressed that he will endeavor to see that the challenges are addressed amicably since the aims of the institutions is the same.
The joyous spirit of the festivities was further enhanced by the enchanting Christmas carol performances of choirs, with melodious touch that created a magical atmosphere that resonated with the true essence of the Christmas season.
The event brought together City Political Leasership, residents, and supporters united ushering in the Christmas festive season.
The ceremony ended with the Lord Mayor treating his guests to a sumptuous feast and live band musical performances.
