As the deadline for submission of nomination forms for the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) district and city elective leadership positions closes on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, campaigns are gathering momentum across the country.
Among those seeking to serve is Sylus Oluka Destiny, the Deputy Headteacher of Toroma Seed Secondary School in Katakwi District, who is contesting for the position of USSSA Katakwi District Vice Chairperson.
Presenting himself as a leader driven by vision, discipline and commitment, Oluka says he is determined to rebrand USSSA Katakwi into a powerhouse of talent, discipline and sporting excellence.
Speaking to Wallnetnews Digital, Oluka said the district has enormous untapped sporting potential that requires visionary leadership to unlock.
“Katakwi’s time for transformation in school sports is now. We have the talent, we have the schools and we have the passion. What we need is accountable leadership that will unite stakeholders and provide opportunities for our learners to compete and excel at the highest level,” he said.
Oluka emphasized that his candidature is built on four key pillars that he believes will transform school sports in Katakwi District.
He pledges transparent and accountable management of sports funds and resources to ensure every school benefits fairly from USSSA programmes and activities, he plans to strengthen talent identification, scouting and nurturing programmes, while creating opportunities for student-athletes to showcase their abilities at national championships and beyond. He also promises to advocate for improved sports equipment, better facilitation of officials and enhanced welfare for student-athletes to enable them to perform in a conducive environment.
According to Oluka, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, integrity and collaboration among all schools will be central to his leadership if elected.
He believes that school sports should not only produce champions on the field but also disciplined and responsible citizens.
Meanwhile, several games teachers across Katakwi District who spoke to Wallnetnews Digital expressed optimism that the upcoming elections present an opportunity to strengthen sports administration in the district.
They said they expect the next leadership to prioritize transparency, expand participation in different sporting disciplines, improve communication with schools, organize regular competitions, and lobby for more resources to support school sports development.
The teachers also called for leadership that will unite all stakeholders and ensure talented learners receive adequate exposure to regional and national competitions.
Voting for the USSSA district leadership elections is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2026, with delegates expected to elect leaders who will steer the future of school sports in Katakwi District for the next term.
