GULU CITY – The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games II Rugby 7s tournament has transformed Gulu City into a vibrant hub of school sports, with thrilling action already producing closely contested matches and strong statements from several competing schools.
Attention now shifts to Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Bishop Negri College, where the remaining girls’ pool matches and the highly anticipated boys’ quarter-finals will determine which teams advance to the decisive stages of the championship.
As the tournament enters its business end, consistency, composure and effective game management will be crucial for the young players, with every match carrying significant weight in the race for national honours.
In the girls’ competition, Jinja Secondary School currently tops the standings with 9 points, having maintained an impressive run in the opening matches. Kitgum Comprehensive School sits second with 7 points, while defending champions Nkoma Secondary School occupy third place, also on 7 points, setting up an exciting battle for qualification as the pool phase concludes.

The competition has once again demonstrated the intensity and unpredictability that characterise school rugby, where every possession and every decision can determine a team’s fate.
In the knockout phase, there is little room for error. One defensive lapse can bring a team’s campaign to an abrupt end, while a single moment of brilliance can propel another side into title contention.
That delicate balance between pressure and opportunity is what continues to make the USSSA Ball Games II Rugby 7s tournament one of the most exciting and important events on the school rugby calendar, offering young athletes a platform to showcase their talent, resilience and competitive spirit.
With quarter-final places and semi-final berths at stake, fans should expect another day of high-intensity rugby as schools battle for supremacy in Gulu City.
