Ugandans react to Kyagulani’s support for Homosexuality as confirmed by EU Parliament official

Members of Parliament and leaders in Uganda have reacted to the news of the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine’s, public support of the LGBTQ community.

A top official of the European Parliament, David Vidal Sans, took to his X and credited Bobi Wine for not only fighting for the rights of the LGBTQ community but also exposing a dictator in Uganda.

“I was honored to meet Uganda’s most prominent leader, Bobi Wine. He is not only fighting for human and LGBTI+ rights but also exposing the dictator in the 2024 Oscar-nominated documentary,” David Vidal said.

His confirmation of Bobi Wine’s commitment to supporting homosexuality in Uganda has attracted sharp criticism from leaders, including members of his own NUP party.

The Member of Parliament for Kimaanya Kabonera, Masaka City, Dr. Bwanika (NUP), while reacting to this confirmation, said, “You cannot hide forever; this tells it all.”

Pastor Martin Ssempa, the founder of Makerere Community Church, questioned whether or not Bobi Wine’s action to support homosexuality is an overall reflection of the NUP as an opposition party in Uganda.

He further tasked the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, also a senior NUP leader, to explain the recent Bobi Wine’s engagements with the LGBTQ crusaders around the world.

“Joel Ssenyonyi can you please tell us if this fighting for LGBTQ policy of Bobiwine with the European Union Commision has been approved by the NEC of NUP as a political part?. I ask for clarification,” Pastor Ssempa said.

The Constitutional Court recently declined to nullify the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023 in its entirety and ditched a petition filed by rights activists.

The group, including Andrew Mwenda, a veteran journalist, has since threatened to petition the Supreme Court.
