UBF President Muhangi Confident in Boxers’ Chances at World Olympic Qualifiers in Bangkok

As the World Olympic Boxing Qualifiers approach in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 24th to June 2nd, Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi has expressed strong confidence in the national team’s ability to secure spots for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Muhangi’s optimism stems from the rigorous training and preparation the Ugandan boxers have undergone in recent months. He believes that their hard work, combined with the strategic planning of their coaching staff, positions them well to excel at the qualifiers.

“Our boxers have shown remarkable improvement and resilience. They have been training tirelessly, and I am confident that their dedication will pay off,” said Muhangi. “We have a strong team that is not only technically proficient but also mentally prepared to compete on the world stage.”

The Ugandan team comprises both seasoned athletes and promising newcomers, each bringing unique strengths to the ring. Muhangi highlighted the importance of this blend, noting that the experience of veteran boxers provides valuable guidance to the younger athletes, fostering a supportive and driven team environment.

The qualifiers in Bangkok are expected to be highly competitive, with top talent from around the globe vying for limited Olympic slots. Despite this, Muhangi remains steadfast in his belief that the Ugandan boxers will rise to the occasion.

The Three Uganda’s top boxers are gearing up to compete in the World Olympic Qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand, Shadir Musa Bwogi, competing in the Light Heavyweight (80 kg) category, Kakande Muzamiru in the Light Middleweight (75 kg) division, and Regarn Ssimbwa in the Super Heavyweight (92 kg) class, are all set to represent the nation with hopes of securing spots in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Shadir Musa Bwogi – Light Heavyweight (80 kg); A seasoned boxer and Uganda’s flag bearer at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, brings a wealth of experience and determination to the ring. Known for his powerful punches and strategic fighting style, Bwogi is expected to be a strong contender in the Light Heavyweight division.

His previous Olympic experience will be invaluable as he navigates the intense competition in Bangkok.
Kakande Muzamiru – Light Middleweight (75 kg);  competing in the Light Middleweight category, is another promising talent in Uganda’s boxing lineup.

Muzamiru has shown impressive skill and resilience in his previous matches, making him a formidable opponent. His agility and quick reflexes are key attributes that could see him through to the Paris Olympics.

Regarn Ssimbwa – Super Heavyweight (92 kg); stepping into the ring in the Super Heavyweight division, brings a powerful presence and knockout potential. Ssimbwa’s sheer strength and endurance make him a significant threat to his competitors.

His ability to deliver powerful blows and withstand heavy hits will be crucial in his quest to secure an Olympic slot.
“The competition will be tough, no doubt about it. But our boxers have the skill, determination, and heart needed to succeed. We are not just participating; we are competing to win,” Muhangi affirmed.

As the team prepares to depart for Bangkok, the Ugandan boxing community and supporters are rallying behind them, hoping to see their athletes make history by securing their places at the Paris Olympics. Muhangi’s confidence and the team’s readiness set an encouraging tone for Uganda’s prospects in this critical qualifying event.
