Residents in Rukiga District equipt with farming tools to enhance their agricultural production

RUKIGA – In a bid to enhance household incomes and promote agricultural practices, over 36,000 households in Rukiga were on Friday this week equipt with essential farming tools so as to enhance their farming and increase agricultural production. These tools included mostly hoes and pangas and they were donated by Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe who is currently eyeing for  Rukiga Woman Parliamentary seat.
Speaking to our reporter Ms. Moureen Kyarisiima the Personal Assistant (PA) to Dr Sylvia Alinaitwe who officiated the distribution process, said that the donation program aims to empower local communities in the district with farming tools which are necessary in their gardens and hence improvement in agricultural output. She added by equipping them with the necessary tools to engage in productive agricultural activities and the initiative seeks to improve farming efficiency and increase crop yields, ultimately leading to improved household incomes.
Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe Tumuheirwe Mwanaki who is set to run the Rukiga district woman Member of Parliament in 2026 elections, has long been an advocate for sustainable agriculture and rural development where recently  distributed about 2millon coffee seedlings in the same District to address the household income challenges.
Yesterday, while distributing garden equipment tools, Kyarisiima, Dr. Alinaitwe’s Personal Assistant, used the same event to emphasize the importance of the program in promoting self-sufficiency and reducing poverty levels in Rukiga District by providing households with hoes and pangas. ”We are empowering them to cultivate their land effectively and generate income through agriculture where this will not only improve their livelihoods but also contribute to the overall development of the district with no political segregation” Kyasiimire said.
In attendence was also Mr. Gibs Barigayomwe, a political youth coordinator to Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe Tumuheirwe but also doubles as the Rukiga District youth Chairperson added his voice and asked the residents to utilize the agriculture equipment to strengthen their household incomes through effective practice of agriculture .
Residents that included Herbert Tusiime, Mabel Busingye and Charles Twinomujuni commended Dr Sylvia Alinaitwe for the good initiative saying this is an added effort to push agriculture the district.
The distribution of hoes and pangas has been carried out systematically, targeting households across the district and local authorities have been actively involved in identifying beneficiaries based on their agricultural needs and socio-economic conditions.
