Prison Authority nets 2 after Kibuku Armoury raid, 4 guns and 116 rounds of ammunition recovered

KAMPALA – In a press statement released by Uganda Prisons service Sportsperson Scp. Frank Baine, On Thursday, 16th November 2023 at about 2pm, unknown persons broke into Uganda Prison Kibuku Armoury and stole 04 AK-47 guns and 116 rounds of ammunition.

Kibuku Prison is located in the Eastern Region of Mbale.

He added that, following a joint security operation, all the 04 guns and 116 ammunitions were recovered the next day. Noting that it was as a result of this operation, two suspects have been apprehended and are currently in Police custody.

Baine further said that, a team of inspectors from Prisons Headquarters has since been dispatched to Kibuku Prison to establish the facts behind the incident for further management.

He appreciated their sister forces and warned public for the vigilance that led to the success of the joint operation. “Uganda Prisons Service is committed to the fulfillment of its mandate and will do every thing possible to avoid the re-occurrence of such scenario” said in a statement.
