One Month to Paris 2024 Olympics: Uganda’s technical support team list leaks, lacks Athlete representative

With just one month remaining until the Paris 2024 Olympics, which will take place from July 26 to August 11, excitement is building up for this grand sporting event. However, a recent development has stirred controversy within the Ugandan sports community.
A leaked list of Uganda’s Technical Support Team for the Olympics has surfaced, revealing a significant omission: the absence of an athlete representative.

The leaked list seen by wallnetnews  includes a range of support personnel crucial for the preparation and performance of Team Uganda at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The team comprises  Mr Moses Mwase (Chef de mission), Mr David Katende Ssemakula (Team Manager), Elijah Mwebaza Njawuzi and Dovic Daisy Nassuna (Administrators), Dr Nana Jacqueline Nakiddu (Physician), Priscilla Ondoga and Quitto Oding (Physiotherapists), John Barnes Ssetamu (Media Attach) and Partricia Ayebare (Welfare/Safeguarding Officer), all tasked with ensuring the athletes’ optimal performance and well-being during the Games.
The absence of an athlete representative has caused considerable concern among athletes, sports analysts, and fans. An athlete representative is essential for voicing the concerns and needs of the athletes, ensuring their welfare is adequately prioritized.

According to the Athlete Concerns, Many athletes have expressed their disappointment over this omission. They emphasize that having an athlete representative would help address their specific needs and challenges more effectively, and for Sports analysts argue that an athlete representative is vital for bridging the communication gap between athletes and the support staff, thereby facilitating better decision-making and ensuring the athletes’ perspectives are considered.
When wallnetnews interviewed the Public they were calling for the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) to reconsider the composition of the support team and include an athlete representative.

As the Games draw nearer, it is imperative for the Uganda Olympic Committee to address this issue promptly. Including an athlete representative in the support team will not only enhance the athletes’ performance but also reinforce their confidence and trust in the system.
The sporting community eagerly awaits a resolution that prioritizes the athletes’ best interests as they prepare to represent Uganda on the global stage in Paris.
