CECAFA benefits from CAF African Schools Football capacity building programme

Participants of the recently concluded CAF African Schools Football Championship CECAFA Zone enjoyed great benefits of being a part of the innovative CAF tournament after completing the various capacity building programmes that ran on the sidelines of the competition.

The CECAFA Zone successfully concluded its CAF African Schools Football Championships on Wednesday, where Uganda representative, St Marys secondary school -Kitende and Kawempe Muslim senior secondary school were crowned champions of the competition in both the boys and girls divisions.

Running concurrently to the competition was CAF’s various capacity building programmes which included the Young Reporters Programme, Young Team Doctors Programme, Young Referees and Young Coaches programme.
More than 700 participants received their certificates in a closing ceremony attended by various CAF and CECAFA delegates at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.

Doris Petra, the Football Kenya Federation Vice President said they are happy that it was not only football being played during these tournaments, but CAF was intentional about imparting knowledge and transferring skills to produce future African leaders.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship continued across the various CAF Zones with COSAFA taking centre stage between 14 – 16 December with South Africa also winning a double at the CAF African Schools Football Championship | COSAFA Qualifiers, Zimbabwe 2023, winning both the boys and girls title on Saturday, December 16th.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian capital of Cairo kicks off as the CAF African Schools Football Championship UNAF Qualifiers on Sunday, December 17th.

The UNAF edition of the qualifiers takes place between 17th – 19th December at the Sports City June 30 Stadium and will see the winners in both the boys and girls groups join the champions of WAFU B, CECAFA as well as COSAFA who have all conducted successful qualifiers over the last few weeks.

Three nations are contesting  the CAF African Schools Football Championship UNAFA title in a round-robin format in both the boys and girls division. The participating nations are hosts Egypt, Morocco as well as Libya.
