USSSA-Elite Championship: Jinja to host 5th Edition

The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) activity calendar officially starts this month as they will be holding the fifth edition of Elite Schools Championship that is to be hosted in Busoga zone.

On Wednesday, January 10th 2024, the USSSA Elite Schools Championship organizing committee held a preparatory meeting with a total of 25 schools games teachers that will be taking part in the 5th edition of the championship.

The meeting was chaired by Harriet Margaret Apolot, the 3rd Vice President USSSA where she addressed games teachers from several schools in preparation and reminding schools to register for the Elite Secondary School Championship 2024 and it’s at these games where the competition committee will sit to review the rules according to wallnetnews sources.

As the championship keeps on growing since it was invented in 2019 with the aim of helping schools test their new recruits for upcoming schools sports events, the 5th edition will be residential and the boys will be residing at Jinja secondary school while girls at Jinja college school.

Last year’s edition was held in Mbarara High School in Western Uganda as you are aware that it’s rotational and this time it’s heading to Busoga zone because 2024 belongs to the Eastern.

On matters of the sporting disciplines, the first edition had only two, that’s football and Netball, the second edition had three; football, Netball and basketball with 3rd edition coming with four disciplines while fourth edition had eight disciplines, but this years edition will accommodate all disciplines except beach sporting disciplines and will be played in four days.

It should be noted that the USSSA secretariat has started replacement of schools that had failed to beat the deadline of confirmation by payment.

If any of the top teams meant to feature in the 5th edition fail to commit by payment before January 2024, the deadline day, others will be free to request.

The residential tournament will be held between 25th to 28th January 2024 at Jinja secondary school and co-host Jinja college school with arrival on January 24th 2024.

Meanwhile, Jinja senior secondary school and co-host Jinja college school are more than ready to receive the teams and according to the USSSA inspection team was certified with the preparations.
