Uganda Prisons Queens shine at East Africa Club Netball Championship

In a display of dominance and skill, the Uganda Prisons Queens have stamped their authority at the ongoing East Africa Club Netball Championship in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The team has showcased exceptional talent and teamwork, securing two resounding victories in their opening matches.

In their first encounter, the Uganda Prisons Queens faced off against the formidable KVZ girls from Zanzibar. With precision passes, strategic plays, and unwavering determination, the Queens emerged victorious with a commanding 57-32 win, setting the tone for their campaign in the tournament.

The Prisons Queens dominated the game from the start, taking a 16-7 lead in the first quarter. They extended their advantage to 25-15 by halftime, with their opponents struggling to keep up with their precision.

In the third quarter, the Prisons Queens continued to assert their dominance, leading 40-25. However, it was the introduction of substitutes Christine Namulumba, Kango Stella Nanfuka, Viola Asingo, Donia Flavia, and Doreen Lukenga that transformed the game.

The substitutes brought a new level of aggression and attacking flair, which saw the Prisons Queens score 17 goals in the final quarter, sealing a comfortable 57-32 victory.

Undeterred by the challenge, the Uganda Prisons Queens continued their winning streak in their second match against the Warriors netball team from Tanzania. With an outstanding display of skill and athleticism, the Queens dominated the court, overwhelming their opponents with a remarkable 73-12 victory.

A notable figure in the success of the Uganda Prisons Queens is Ruth Meeme, who not only contributes as a player but also serves as a coach. Her leadership, experience, and guidance have undoubtedly played a crucial role in the team’s stellar performance on the court.

The match saw significant tactical changes, with the introduction of new players from the technical team and the resting of others. The first quarter ended 18-1 in favor of Uganda Prisons, setting the tone for the rest of the game. By the second quarter, they had extended their lead to 38-3.

The third quarter saw Uganda Prisons continue to assert their dominance, leading 57-6. The final quarter ended 73-12, cementing their victory.

As the tournament progresses, the Uganda Prisons Queens remain focused and determined to maintain their momentum, aiming to clinch the coveted title and bring glory to their nation. With their exceptional talent and unwavering commitment, they continue to inspire fans and enthusiasts across the region.

The Uganda Prisons Queens’ remarkable run at the East Africa Club Netball Championship serves as a testament to the talent and potential within Ugandan netball. With each victory, they reaffirm their status as a force to be reckoned with in the world of netball, showcasing the power of teamwork, dedication, and perseverance.

The team’s lineup included Lillian Ajio (WD), Donia Flavia (C), Ruth Meeme (WA) as a Coach Player, Tausi Mumena (GD), Hadija Nakabuye (GA), Christine Namulumba Kango (GS), and Stella Nanfuka (GK). Substitutes included Sylvia Nanyonga, Joyce Nakibuule, Doreen Lukenge, Mary Asio, and Malisera Àkello.

Meanwhile, Uganda Prisons Queens  will face long-time rivals and defending champions NIC  on Wednesday, May 15th 2024  afternoon, in what promises to be a title decider.
