Uganda Parliament upbeat about defending Inter-Parliamentary games title

The government chief whip and Ajuri County member of parliament Rt Hon Hamson Obua, gave a pep talk to Members of Parliament soccer team  for the forthcoming East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games urging them to defend their title.

The Parliamentary team is currently training for the games to be held in Kigali, Rwanda from  December 2nd to 14th 2023. The national parliaments of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, South Sudan,  East African Legislative Assembly (EALA)  and host nation Rwanda will be participating in eight sports disciplines that include, Netball, Volleyball, Tug of War,  football, golf, basketball, darts and Athletics.

During the Parliament of Uganda and the Eddy Kenzo-led Good Friends team faced off in a friendly at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Friday where both  two teams, majorly comprising VIPs, played out a 2-2 stalemate, the Government chief Whip Rt Hon Hamson Obua encouraged the team to see that they  perform better comparing to last years edition hosted in Juba, South Sudan, with this kind of friendlies we are having are really helping our technical bench to correct our mistakes so that when we in Kigali it will be like a walk over.

“You well know that our Uganda secondary schools association teams represented us well in Huye, Rwanda at FEASSA games and came back overall champions, so also us Parliament of Uganda we need to prove our worth and win the overall title in Rwanda.” said Obua.

“As we train in preparation for the games, let’s have it in mind that the people of Uganda are following us and the only thing they want from us is victory.” he added.

What you need to know, Uganda last hosted the games in 2019 and  Ugandan Parliament emerged overall winners after taking home the football, netball and basketball trophy for both men and women.While in South Sudan who hosted the last years 2022 edition of the  East African inter-parliamentary games in Juba, Uganda Parliamentary team still walked away with the Overall title after taking home the Netball, Basketball (Women), Volleyball (Women), Darts (Disabled), Golf and Athletics trophies.

Now as the Uganda Parliament team intensifies  its training, the task ahead is for them to defend their title and also emerge as winners in other categories.

The Government Chief Whip, Rt Hon Hamson Obua, who is also a football  player, hailed his team mates for showing love and determination in preparations, however talking to wallnetnews he confirmed that this year come sunshine or rain they as Uganda parliament football team they will have to come back with the Soccer Trophy.

Meanwhile, The East Africa Community  Inter-Parliamentary Games is key to enhancing relations between the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) and the National Assemblies in the region.
