The anticipation is palpable as Uganda’s young athletes prepare to embark on what promises to be a transformative journey at the ISF Cross-Country Championship, set to kick off this weekend at the illustrious Ngong Racecourse in Kenya. For these budding stars, this championship represents far more than just another race—it’s a pivotal moment that has the potential to shape the trajectory of their athletic careers and redefine their futures.

As they lace up their running shoes and mentally prepare to take on the challenges ahead, these young athletes carry with them the hopes and dreams of a nation. It should be noted that the event has attracted 22 nations including Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Namibia, Morocco, China, Tunisia, Italy, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Czech Republic, Chile, England, Ireland, Mexico, Luxembourg, Croatia, New Zealand and French International School-Kenya and hosts Kenya.
Medals will be up for grabs across three categories of competition including U-12, U-15 and U-18 (boys and girls).
Those under 12 years will run an average of 1.2km and 2.5km as well while those under the age of 18 will run a maximum of 5.5km.

The race for the girls will cover slightly less distance compared to the boys. Hosts Kenya boasts the largest contingent of athletes (60), followed by East African neighbours Uganda (41) and Tanzania who have 29 athletes. The 24th edition of the championships is being held in Africa for the second time after Marrakech, Morocco in 2000.
The ISF Cross-Country Championship is not just an opportunity to compete against some of the best young athletes from around the world; it’s a platform to prove themselves, to defy expectations, and to leave an indelible mark on the global athletics community.
