Uganda’s national boxing team, team officials and the national para powerlifting team have undergone Team Uganda’s Athlete Support Programme as preparations for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games gather momentum.
The programme was conducted by the Medical and Anti-Doping Commission, working together with the Safeguarding Officer, and focused on safeguarding awareness, anti-doping education and comprehensive medical examinations for athletes and officials.
The sessions were held at Hamz Stadium, where the boxing team and its officials participated, while the national para powerlifting team underwent the same programme at their training camp in Ndeeba.
The ongoing initiative is aimed at ensuring that Team Uganda athletes are healthy, well-informed and adequately prepared to compete in a safe and professional sporting environment.

During the sessions, athletes received education on safeguarding principles, anti-doping regulations and the importance of competing in line with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code, while also undergoing medical assessments to determine their fitness ahead of the Games.
The programme forms part of Team Uganda’s broader preparations for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, where the country expects to field athletes across several sporting disciplines.
The Uganda Olympic Committee/Commonwealth Games Uganda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting athletes beyond competition by prioritising their health, welfare and overall well-being throughout their journey to the Commonwealth Games.
Speaking to Wallnetnews Digital, Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi welcomed the athlete support programme, describing it as an important step in preparing the national boxing team for the Commonwealth Games.
“This programme is very important because it equips our athletes with knowledge on safeguarding, anti-doping and healthy living while ensuring they are medically fit before they head into international competition. As Uganda Boxing Federation, we appreciate the Uganda Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Uganda for prioritising the welfare of our athletes. We believe these programmes will help our boxers compete confidently and professionally at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games,” Muhangi said.
With preparations intensifying, Team Uganda continues to implement athlete-centred programmes aimed at ensuring competitors arrive in Glasgow physically fit, mentally prepared and fully aware of the standards expected at one of the world’s biggest multi-sport events.
