The Minister of State for Defence (Veteran Affairs), Hon. Huda Abason Oleru, has today received a donation of sewing machines from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Spouses’ Desk in Kampala.

The sewing machines donated by an Indian Community, Maharashtra Mandal Kampala, to the Spouses’ Desk, were handed over to the Minister by the head of the Spouses’ desk officer, Mrs Rebecca Mugume.

Hon. Oleru called upon the veterans’ spouses to take the donation of the sewing machines as an economic boost towards sustainable development.

Hon Huda has pledged to double efforts in the skilling of Veterans’ families because it is the only way the poverty eradication goals shall be met.

The Director of Veteran Affairs, Brig Gen(Rtd) Emmanuel Musinguzi, applauded the Spouses Desk management for having thought it out wise and boosted their counterparts whose spouses are no longer in active service.

He added that the bridge between serving and retired officers’ spouses should be kept alive for continuous progress of family development.

The donation follows a previous one from the government of Japan that gave 100 sewing machines to the Directorate of Veteran Affairs.

Present were: the Commissioner of Rehabilitation, Psychosocial Support and Resettlement at the Ministry of Defence, Mike Mabonga and Staff from DVA headquarters
