A group of Political Activists from Mbarara have asked the Members of Parliament and other authorities to cause actions of impeaching the speaker of Parliament of Uganda, the Rt. Hon. Anita Anite Among from her seat.
Following the recent allegations against the Speaker of Parliament over corruption related issues and the sanctions against her by the UK Government, this has prompted some groups of people from the public to ask speaker Among to step aside and allow investigations into the matter.
While addressing Journalists in a recent press Briefing, a section of Political Activists from Mbarara under Rise Against Poverty (RAP Uganda) raised their concerns as they demanded for investigations against the Speaker of Parliament.
Aaron Ainomugisha, the team Leader RAP Uganda and a former Journalist who claims to be a political activist today said that the scandals surrounding the office of the speaker of parliament and the entire parliament of Uganda is a shame and that it is something that is putting this country at risk.
Ainomugisha has also revealed that the accusations and allegations put on the speaker of Parliament over corruption should be considered as criminal.
“Unfortunately, matters have escalated to an extent that now the UK has even put sanctions on our speaker over corruption scandals surrounding her. What does this mean? If these sanctions have been declared, should it be an eye opener for the government of Uganda and the leaders that we are not doing our job to fight corruption in the country?  If the speaker of the 11th parliament has been sanctioned it means she is not fit to continue presiding over the parliament. As Rise Against Poverty of Uganda we are saying she should step aside, because even before the sanctions, she has already been implicated in other huge scandals. Let the Anti-corruption Agencies carry investigations into allegations against Speaker Among” said Ainomugisha
Adios Denmark, the former Guild President Bishop Stuart University Mbarara said that the Members of Parliament including the Rt. Hon. Speaker who is the leader of parliament of Uganda has surely distanced themselves from the cardinal role of doing what they are supposed to do as Leaders.
“I will not distance myself from my other colleagues’ request, the Rt. Hon. Speaker Among should resign. And it is our duty as citizens of Uganda to call for that especially the young people, because you are the main people who are suffering from this. These people have looted us as tax payers of this government” said Denmark.
Peter Mpaka, the former City Mayor Aspirant  Mbarara City and a Lecturer of Medical Laboratory Sciences and a Senior Laboratolist said it is painful that Parliament of Uganda led by the Speaker Among spends UGX 2.6B per day.
“We have a speaker who is swindling huge amounts of money, we have state house that swallows Shs 2b per day, we have members of Parliament who are at the end of the month they are in the speaker’s house and some are taking hundreds of millions for passing of this and the other, so we see this as  a house of deals. Therefore, we are here to call every sane mind of every Ugandan to arise and support this call against corruption, against the practices of injustice , against the stealin that we see in this country. we pray that sanctions can continue being put on every top Leaders in this country who are involved in corruption related issues” said Mpaka
