Mbale Sports Club is hosting the 1st Edition of the Ladies Open Golf Tournament, attracting golfers from across the country and neighboring Kenya.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Mbale Sports Club, Mr. Mugoya emphasized that this tournament is a prestigious golf world ranking event, with ladies competing in a 54-hole challenge.

He described it as the biggest tournament ever held in Mbale, showcasing the club’s commitment to promoting golf and empowering women in sports. He also confirmed that the Golf Union has injected funds to support the tournament and many trophies will be awarded at the end of the event.
“We want to ensure that Mbale Sports Club gains its legacy, as we are the largest landlord of land in Eastern Uganda. I am pleased to report that we have managed to recover most of our land, which was grabbed by land grabbers in Mbale City,” Uthman revealed.

Ms. Doreen Mwesigye, the Lady President of the Golf Union and Mbale Lady Captain, commended the president and executives for preparing the course.
The competition has attracted over 120 golfers, including 50 ladies and 10 juniors, who are participating in the event. Notable participants include Flavia Namakula, ranked number one, and Eva Magala, ranked number four, who plays professionally.

“I am thrilled to have professionals participating, as they play for money and will certainly raise the stakes. We have secured sponsorship of 3 million shillings and additional prizes,” she added.
The tournament tee off on Saturday June, 1st and will end on Sunday, 2nd 2024, featuring top female golfers from Uganda and Kenya, including those from Kakamega.
With its picturesque course and welcoming atmosphere, Mbale Sports Club is an ideal venue for this prestigious event. The club’s efforts to promote golf and support women in sports are commendable, and this tournament is sure to be a resounding success.
