In a dramatic turn of events at the ongoing CAF Africa Schools Championship in Zanzibar, St. Mary’s Kitende has been eliminated from the competition. Despite their best efforts, the team could not advance past the group stages, facing stiff competition from their rivals hosts Tanzania and Senegal.
In contrast, Kawempe Muslim Secondary School has made a remarkable impact in the girls’ category. The team has secured their place in the semi-finals after a series of impressive performances.
Kawempe Muslim dominated their matches, beating Togo and The Gambia with identical 2-0 victories with yesterday, Tuesday draw with South Africa.
Kawempe Muslim’s success can be attributed to their solid defense and potent attack. In both matches, the team showcased their skill and teamwork, with standout performances from key players Shadia Nabirye and Cynthia Kirenga who ensured their progression to the next stage of the championship.

The team’s coach Ayub Khalifan expressed pride in the players’ achievements and confidence in their ability to continue their winning streak. “Our girls have shown tremendous dedication and talent. We are focused on the semi-finals and are determined to bring home the trophy,” the coach stated.
As Kawempe Muslim prepares for their semi-final match, the team remains focused and motivated. Their journey in the championship has captured the attention of fans and supporters, who are eagerly anticipating their next game.
The CAF Africa Schools Championship continues to provide a platform for young athletes to shine, and Kawempe Muslim’s progress is a testament to the strength and potential of Ugandan football. Meanwhile, winners of both the Boys’ and Girls’ competition will each receive USD 300 000 prize money, runners-up each receiving USD 200 000, while the bronze medallists will each take home USD 150 000, courtesy of CAF’s partnership with the Motsepe Foundation to be utilised for development projects within schools.
