I wont bend low on corrupt officials: Burora spits fire as he hands over office

Lubaga Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Herbert Anderson Burora, has relinquished office following his suspension from the job.

“Today, I handed over the Office of the Deputy Resident City Commissioner in LUBAGA Division,” he announced in a social media post on X formerly known as Twitter.

Burora was dismissed after he turned a vocal critic of the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among over alleged mismanagement of funds by the House.

Burora was on March 14 suspended by the Secretary to the Office of the President, Hajji Yunusu Kakande on grounds that he violated the Uganda Public Service Standing Orders.

“You were invited for an impromptu meeting that was held today and which you attended in person. In that meeting, you were faulted for having violated official advice to the extent that you continued to issue or utter statements to the social media without express authority from your line supervisors. Therefore, you failed to satisfy the meeting or give justifiable reasons for your continued actions. In view of the above, I hereby suspend you from duty as Deputy Resident City Commissioner Rubaga Division for a period of 28 days with effect from 15th March, 2024,” reads Kakande’s letter suspending Burora.

In the meantime, Burora was asked to hand over office, the Government vehicle and any other Government property in his possession to Ms. Doreen Keita, Deputy Resident City Commissioner, Central Division Kampala.

Keita will caretake the Office until further notice.

While handing over office, Burora again hit at the Speaker of Parliament, the very “offence” that caused his dismissal.

“5 years and 5 months of my Service are worth bowing out Honourably,” said Burora.

“It’s not about the office/Job as Madam Anita thought, It’s about the Service. I had all the options to choose the Job or to remain true to my conscience. I chose the latter,” he added.

“In my tour of duty, there are those that I didn’t satisfy for one reason or the other, but majorly, I served the way I was supposed to do. I may not be able to measure my legacy, as a representative of the President, but I’m sure there is not a single day that I didn’t represent him to the best of my knowledge.”

Burora said he will on Thursday, 21st March 2024 hold a press conference in which he shall “expound more broadly.”
