Expect good hospitality at St. Kagwa Bushenyi High School and Bweranyangi Girls Secondary School as the two institutions prepare to make history as first-time hosts of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Ball Games I and Athletics Championships in 2027.
The two schools will jointly stage the national competitions, marking a significant milestone in their sporting journeys while providing an opportunity to showcase their sporting facilities, hospitality and commitment to promoting sports development in their respective communities.
The hosting arrangement is expected to attract thousands of student-athletes, coaches, officials and supporters from across the country, giving Bushenyi District an opportunity to showcase its potential as a destination for major national school sports competitions.
In other hosting decisions, Nyakasura School, in partnership with Kyebambe Girls, secured the rights to host the 2027 National Ball Games II, while Janan Secondary School Bombo, alongside Standard High School Zzana-Ndejje Campus, will stage the Elite Games.
Seroma Christian High School in Mukono was selected to host the National Swimming Championship, while Masindi-based Kabalega Secondary School will host the 2027 National Boys Football Championship.
To ensure continuity in the event of unforeseen challenges, Seroma Christian High School has been named the standby host for Ball Games I, while St. Mary’s College Rushoroza will serve as the reserve venue for Ball Games II.
Mbarara High School will be the reserve host for the National Boys Football Championship.
Speaking to the media, USSSA President Justus Mugisha said the selection process considered several factors, including regional rotation, the quality of sporting facilities, accommodation capacity, the anticipated impact on host schools and their respective communities, as well as additional commitments presented in the schools’ hosting bids.
Mugisha emphasized that the hosting rights remain subject to a final compliance inspection scheduled for January 2027.
The assessment will follow a pass-or-fail system, with standby institutions expected to assume hosting responsibilities if the selected schools fail to meet the required standards.
Following the inspections, the Ministry of Education and Sports will issue formal hosting agreements, binding the successful institutions to the facilities, infrastructure and other commitments outlined in their respective bids.
The inspections are intended to ensure that all selected venues meet the required standards to deliver successful national championships while providing student-athletes with suitable conditions to compete.
For St. Kagwa Bushenyi High School and Bweranyangi Girls Secondary School, the 2027 championships present an opportunity to demonstrate their organizational capacity, strengthen their sporting profiles and put Bushenyi District on the national school sports map.
Beyond the competition, the event is expected to provide economic opportunities for the local community through increased demand for accommodation, transport, food and other hospitality services as delegations from across Uganda converge on Bushenyi.
