Absa Bank introduces revolutionary Card-to-Card Visa Transfers

Absa Bank Uganda unveiled its groundbreaking Absa Card Send solution today, a feature integrated into the Absa Mobile banking app, facilitating seamless fund transfers between Absa Visa cards and any other Visa card globally.

Musa Jallow, Absa’s Retail and Business Banking Director, highlighted the bank’s commitment to catering to the needs of today’s digitally savvy customers. He emphasized the necessity of breaking barriers to financial transactions, which were previously reliant on third-party platforms. The Absa Card Send service enables real-time cashless transactions, providing convenience and accessibility while transcending physical borders.

“We recognize that the unique and evolving needs of our customer often mean they have to transact cross borders for both business and personal financial needs. We know our customers want to compete and leverage opportunities at a global stage and so we have made that possible for them. We set ourselves the bold challenge to remove the barriers that getting in the way of the progressive nature of our customers. And that is how this product was collaboratively born between ourselves and our partners Visa whose platform makes this possible, said Jallow.

Jallow emphasized the collaborative effort between Absa and Visa in developing this innovative solution, aiming to empower customers to compete and leverage global opportunities. Chad Pollock, General Manager and Vice President of Visa East Africa, echoed this sentiment, underscoring Visa’s dedication to championing solutions for the African and Ugandan entrepreneurial spirit.

“Visa is proud to be a technological enabler championing solutions for the African and Ugandan enterprising spirit that is leveraging technology to realize global aspirations. The Absa Card Send product made possible by Visa will  broaden the money transfer infrastructure and create a more inclusive environment, because now everyone with a debit card can transact, any time, anywhere” said Chad Pollock.

Aligned with Absa’s brand promise, ‘Your Story Matters,’ this digital solution places customer needs at the forefront, aiming to elevate their banking experiences by offering tailored solutions.

The launch event coincided with the prize handover ceremony for the Premier League Campaign, where 40 winners emerged, with 39 Absa customers winning fuel vouchers worth UGX 200,000 each. The overall winner, Eric Baleteirewa, secured an all-expenses-paid trip to the UK to witness a Premier League match between Arsenal and Everton at the Emirates Stadium on May 19, 2024, accompanied by a friend. This VIP experience includes flights, accommodation, match tickets, guided stadium tours, exclusive shopping experiences, and more.

Absa’s longstanding partnership with the Premier League has consistently rewarded customers, including bringing the Premier League trophy to Uganda for local fans to enjoy. This season alone, Absa has provided 16 Premier League tickets to customers for top matches.

The Absa Card Send service is available to all Absa Credit and Debit cardholders, allowing transactions of up to UGX 50 million any day of the week. Transactional limits in different currencies reach up to UGX 25 million, provided the receiving country allows fast funds and is not restricted.
