The much-anticipated Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) – Bukedi Zone Games are set to begin on Wednesday, April 9th, and will run through to Sunday, April 13th, 2025, gathering top-performing secondary schools from across the Bukedi region for an exciting showdown of skill, teamwork, and determination.

Hosted this year by Busia Secondary School, the tournament features eight groups, each comprising four teams, all ready to battle it out in a tightly contested race for supremacy and qualification to the prestigious USSSA Nationals, which will be held at Ngora High School—a historic first for both boys’ football in Ngora and the Teso Zone as hosts of the Nationals.

Speaking to Wallnetnews digital after the zonal planning meeting, USSSA-Bukedi Zone Chairman, Dominic Maloba, confirmed that all preparations have been finalized.

“The grounds are ready, accommodation and security plans are in place. All we are waiting for now are the participating schools to arrive next week. I want to congratulate all schools that qualified for this stage, and we look forward to welcoming them to Busia,” Maloba said.

Reflecting on last year’s competition hosted in Pallisa, Maloba noted that while the event was successful, it was marred by a series of petitions, offering valuable lessons for this year’s organizing team.

“Last year taught us a lot, especially on handling disputes. We had many petitions, but the committee managed them. This year, we are more prepared and expect a smoother tournament.”

The group draws for both boys and girls have already been conducted, with fields designated for each group to ensure a well-coordinated schedule of matches. The tournament is expected to showcase intense competition, raw talent, and unwavering school spirit, as teams battle not only for zonal glory but also for a ticket to the Nationals.

With expectations high and stakes even higher, the USSSA-Bukedi Zone Games promise a week of unforgettable football action, camaraderie, and the forging of new regional sports legends.
