Uganda’s Avatars Tendo Mukalazi, Kirabo Namutebi set to compete in World Championships

The dynamic duo, Tendo Mukalazi and Kirabo Namutebi of the Aqua Akii Swim Club, alongside Gloria Muzito and Tendo Kaumi, have been selected to represent Uganda at the World Championships 25m (Short Course) in Hungary, scheduled from December 10th to 15th, 2024.

These top-tier athletes have been chosen for their outstanding performances and are set to showcase Uganda’s swimming talent on the global stage.

In a communication from Max Akiiki, the Secretary General of the Uganda Swimming Federation (USF), seen by Wallnetnews, the federation expressed pride in the athletes who qualified for the prestigious championships.

Coach Shan, who will make her World Championships debut, has been appointed to manage and guide the team throughout the event. The USF extended their best wishes to the entire team as they prepare for this significant competition.

Hadijja Namanda, Chairperson of Aqua Akii Swim Club, spoke to Wallnetnews about the club’s pride in their athletes.

“The Avatars, Tendo Mukalazi and Kirabo Namutebi, are raising our Aqua Akii Swim Club flag high and will serve as a great inspiration to our young swimmers.We wish them and the team all the best as our tagline goes, AQUA AKII. KEEP ON MOVING,” she said.

In addition to the World Championships, the Uganda Swimming Federation has also announced a National Team of four swimmers for the Africa Aquatics Open Water Swimming Training Camp, which will take place in Zanzibar from September 17th to 21st, 2024.

The team includes: Rukundo Daniel Nuwagaba, Charlotte Amooti Sanford, Khyati Deshpande and Benjamin Noel Lutaaya

The team will be led by their coach, Abel Ddamulira Kyakulumbye, and is set to depart for Zanzibar on Sunday,September 15th, 2024. The training camp will provide an opportunity for these swimmers to further hone their skills and gain valuable experience in open water swimming.

Both teams’ selections are a testament to the rising prominence of swimming in Uganda, and these athletes will serve as an inspiration to the next generation of swimmers.
