Uganda launches first E-Mobility expo 2024

JINJA – Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Rebecca A. Kadaga, officially launched the First E-Mobility Expo 2024 at Kiira Motors Corporation Electric Vehicle Plant in Jinja Industrial and Business Park. The event showcased Uganda’s progress in e-mobility, including electric vehicle production and charging infrastructure development.
Kadaga emphasized Uganda’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions, citing the country’s growing population and need for eco-friendly transportation. She highlighted the government’s support for the e-mobility industry, including fiscal incentives and investments in infrastructure.
Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Hon Musenero, discussed Uganda’s industrialization goals and the importance of e-mobility in achieving them. She revealed that the government has directly invested over $100 million in the e-mobility sector and instituted fiscal incentives to catalyze the transition.
Maj Gen Sabiti Muzeyi, General Manager of Luwero Industries, representing Gen James Mugira, Managing Director National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) praised the partnership between NEC and Kiira Motors Corporation, thanking the President and government for their support. He emphasized the importance of regional and international collaboration in the e-mobility industry.
Gen Sabiti also, thanked the President for his strategic foresight and support. Highlighting the attractive market for investment in East Africa, with a population of 308.5 million people. He emphasized the need for united East African, regional, and international collaboration to address strategic vulnerabilities in the supply chain
He congratulated KMC on its milestones, including the creation of the Centre for Research in Transportation Technologies (CRTT) and the production of electric vehicles. He pledged NEC’s continued support, collaboration, and partnership in the e-mobility journey. He pointed out some opportunities in e-mobility, including charging infrastructure management, maintenance, service, and repair of electric vehicles, spares and parts supply, battery manufacture, and e-waste management
Eng Paul Musasizi, CEO of Kiira Motors Corporation, welcomed strategic partners, industry leaders, policymakers, innovators, and the public to the expo. He acknowledged the presence of Prof Tickodri Stevens, Executive Chairman of KMC, and other dignitaries. Musasizi expressed gratitude to the government and partners for their support, highlighting the significance of the expo in promoting e-mobility solutions and sustainable development.
The expo aimed to promote innovation, technology, and progress in the automotive industry, driving economic growth and sustainable development. It featured exhibits from industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers, and provided a platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and forging strategic alliances.
