Geofrey Okuna, the Senior Inspector of Schools for Ngora District, has called upon alumni of Ngora High School, local stakeholders, and Members of Parliament from the Teso Zone to rally behind the school’s bid to host the 2025 USSSA National Boys Football Competition.

In an interview with Wallnet News following a facilities inspection by the USSSA-PES team on Saturday, October 12, 2024, Okuna emphasized the importance of collective support to secure the bid.

“To win this bid, we need the backing of all school leaders within Ngora District, both secondary and primary. The majority of the fields included in our proposal belong to them, and hosting a national event on these grounds will not only benefit the schools but also elevate the district’s profile. It’s an opportunity for Ngora to shine and to identify new football talent,” Okuna stated.

If successful, this would be the first time Ngora High School hosts the largest school football competition in the country. The district last hosted significant school events in 1999 (Post Primary Nationals/Athletics), 2006 (Post Primary Nationals/Athletics), 2015 (Coca-Cola Regional Competition), 2022 (USSSA-Teso Zone Qualifiers Boys Football), and most recently, the 2024 USSSA-Teso Zone Qualifiers Boys Football.

Ngora High School has proposed 13 grounds to accommodate the competition, with three fields at Ngora High School, two at Kumi University, and additional grounds at Ngora Girls Secondary School, Apama Primary School, Ngora Seed Odwarat, Koile Primary School, St. Aloysius Core PTC (two grounds), Ngora BKC Primary School, and Ngora Boys Primary School.

For training, grounds are available at Township Primary School, Ngora District Booma Ground, St. Aloysius Demonstration School, and Okoboi Primary School.

Harriet Akayo, Headteacher of Ngora Girls Secondary School, expressed her excitement upon hearing that her school is among the potential venues. “It’s an honor to have our school considered for hosting such a prestigious competition. This is a huge step for our community,” Akayo shared

Andrew Ojirot Anapa, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner for Ngora District, also highlighted the district’s readiness should the bid be secured. “Hosting these games would not only showcase our region’s capabilities but also bring tremendous development opportunities. We are committed to ensuring a successful event in 2025.”

Ngora High School is now looking forward to continued support from the local community as they await the final decision on their bid.
