As schools across Uganda break off for the holidays, one institution, St. Peter’s College Tororo before breaking off for holidays used its time to identify talent and assemble its 2025 squad for the competitive Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Boys Football qualifiers.
The administration of St. Peter’s College, led by Headteacher Luke Emuron, is determined to bring back the school’s glory days. Known for its strong football tradition, the school has represented Tororo and the Bukedi zone at USSSA competitions in the past. However, the 2024 season saw St. Peter’s fail to make it to the USSSA National Boys Football Championships held at Masaka Secondary School. Instead, Tororo Progressive, Busia Secondary School, and Hillview College Bulangira represented the Bukedi zone.
Speaking to Wallnetnews, Emuron expressed optimism about the school’s prospects in 2025. “All schools should watch out for St. Peter’s College Tororo. From the district to the zonal qualifiers, we are fully prepared. Early January, we will finalize online USSSA transfers and register new talent identified during our inter-class competitions. Our aim is to make it to Ngora High School, the hosts of the 2025 Boys Football Nationals.”
St. Peter’s College has been proactive in scouting and nurturing talent during inter-class competitions, ensuring the school is fielding a competitive team. The early assembly of the squad reflects a strategic commitment to success at both the district and zonal qualifiers.
This preparation is especially crucial given the intense competition in Tororo District and the Bukedi zone, regions renowned for producing strong football teams. By starting early, the school hopes to outmatch rivals and secure a place at the Nationals.
Beyond football, St. Peter’s College Tororo is set to play a significant role in the 2025 USSSA calendar. The school, in partnership with Tororo Girls School, has been selected to host the USSSA Ball Games II, Athletics, and Mind Games. This provides an added incentive for the school to excel, as it aims to shine both as a host and as a competitor.
With the administration’s focus on talent identification and strategic preparation, St. Peter’s College Tororo is positioning itself as a serious contender in the 2025 USSSA Boys Football competition. The school’s leadership has left no stone unturned in their quest to make a mark on the national stage, rallying both staff and students around this ambitious goal.
As the new year approaches, all eyes will be on St. Peter’s College to see if their hard work pays off. Will 2025 be the year they reclaim their place among Uganda’s footballing elite? Time will tell, but the determination and groundwork laid so far signal a promising campaign ahead.
