Luke Emuron, Headteacher of St. Peters College-Tororo, has called for unified support from the Bukedi Zone for the joint bid by St. Peters College and Tororo Girls School to host the 2025 USSSA National Ball Games II/Athletics.
As the Ministry of Education and Sports (PES) plans its 2025 schools calendar, the bid presents a unique opportunity for the Bukedi Zone to showcase itself on the national stage.
In an interview with Wallnet News on Friday, October 11, 2024, during the USSSA-PES inspection of facilities, Emuron emphasized that a successful bid by St. Peters College and Tororo Girls School would be a collective victory for the entire Bukedi Zone. “A win for St. Peters College and Tororo Girls School is a win for all of us in the Bukedi Zone,” he stated, urging local leaders and community members to support their cause.
St. Peters College, founded in 1941 by the Mill Hill Missionaries, is an all-boys boarding school offering Ordinary and Advanced Level education.
Located in Tororo, about 230 kilometers east of Kampala, the school boasts a rich history and a strong educational foundation.
Emuron highlighted that St. Peters College, as the main host, has all the required facilities and qualifications to successfully host the prestigious event.
He also stressed the importance of unity within the Bukedi Zone to help secure the bid.
Tororo Girls School, co-hosting the bid, was founded in 1965 by the United States Government as part of an initiative to promote girls’ education in Uganda.
The school, located approximately two kilometers south of Tororo’s central business district along the Tororo-Malaba Road, is committed to empowering young women.
Headmistress Ms. Beatrice Akwale Lumonya expressed her enthusiasm about the opportunity to co-host the games, stating, “We are more than ready to co-host with St. Peters College. If our bid is successful, we aim to deliver an event that will be remembered for its excellent organization and hospitality.”
Dominic Maloba, Chairman of the USSSA-Bukedi Zone, also voiced his support. In an interview with Wallnet News, Maloba underscored the impact that winning the bid would have for both the schools and the Bukedi Zone, saying, “This is an important moment for us, and I believe that with everyone’s support, we can secure this bid and bring pride to our community.”
As the bid process continues, the hope is that the unity among Bukedi Zone stakeholders will help bring the 2025 USSSA National Ball Games II/Athletics to Tororo, allowing the region to celebrate and promote talent on a national scale.
