The Speaker of Parliament and Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Anne Among Magogo, confirmed her commitment to developing Uganda’s sporting talent through significant investment in sports infrastructure.

This comes as Bukedea District prepares to host the 21st edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSA) Games, starting on Sunday, August 18th, 2024.

Speaking on Maama Bukedea Radio on the evening of Thursday, August 15th, 2024, ahead of the upcoming FEASSA Games, the Speaker emphasized Uganda’s untapped potential in sports, which she identified as her primary motivation for investing in sports development.

Rt. Hon. Anita  Anne Among highlighted that Uganda is rich in sporting talent, but this potential remains underutilized due to a lack of adequate facilities.

To address this challenge, she has spearheaded the construction of a state-of-the-art sports complex at Bukedea Comprehensive School. This investment is aimed at providing young Ugandans with the necessary platforms to develop their skills and compete on the international stage.

The Speaker expressed her vision of seeing more Ugandan athletes representing the country at the Olympic Games and other major international and continental sporting events. “My goal is to ensure that our young talents have the infrastructure and opportunities they need to excel,” she stated. She believes that by providing the right environment, Uganda can produce world-class athletes capable of competing at the highest levels.

The FEASSA Games, which start off today with the arrival of teams, will offer a crucial platform for young Ugandan athletes to showcase their abilities. The games are not just a competition but also an opportunity to inspire the next generation of sports stars in the country.

Bukedea Comprehensive School, the host of this year’s FEASSA Games, stands out as a beacon of sports infrastructure in the region. The school boasts the only semi-Olympic size swimming pool in the area, an indoor multi-purpose sports complex, and a 10,000-seater outdoor stadium.

These facilities are a testament to Rt. Hon. Anita Anne  Among’s commitment to enhancing the sports landscape in Uganda.
Rt. Hon. Anita  Anne Among’s dedication to investing in sports infrastructure is set to significantly impact Uganda’s sporting future.

With the hosting of the FEASSA Games in Bukedea, the district is now on the map as a center for sports excellence, providing young athletes with the facilities they need to achieve greatness. As the games begin, all eyes will be on Bukedea, not just for the competition but for the lasting legacy that this investment in sports will create for Uganda.
