Rukiga Youth urged to embrace Government Programmes for Development

Rukiga – The youth in Rukiga district have endorsed president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as their sole candidate for 2026 general elections.

The youth made the endorsement Tuesday during the youth day celebrations held at Kamwezi playground in Kabirizi Cell Kigara Parish Kamwezi sub-county Rukiga district that was celebrated under the theme “The role of the youth in the Parish Development Model programme.”

The Rukiga youth chairperson Barigayomwe Gibson appreciated whoever has done anything in their capacity to add a stone on the development of the youth.

He encouraged the youth to have respect for the elderly, even their leaders rather than conflicting on vital issues concerning development.

The state minister in charge of children and youth affairs Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi who was the guest of honour urged the youth to join government programmes saying that they always set with provisions of helping the youth.

Sarah Mateke who doubles as Kisoro district Woman MP strongly warned the youth who refuse to pay back loans they get on the funds put in youth government programs like Emyooga, youth livelihood programme among others to pay before they ascend on them.

She said that the NRM government has put these programs not in a selective way to help many, thus urging those who got them to bring them so that others can also get them.

It was discovererd that in Rukiga district, Ugx453,712,452 was released under the youth livelihood programme (YLP) in the previous years, but only Ugx50m have been recovered/paid back whereas women who got money through Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) have recovered so far recovered Ugx184m.

The RDC Rukiga district Fred Kyamugizita implored the youth to always reflect on where Uganda came from, where they are and where they are going.

He said that the current government is uncomparable to the previous government where people were shot at in broad day light.

The NRM chairperson Rukiga district Apollo Nyegamehe also encouraged people to always focus on choosing leaders who can steer development of their people.

The function was attended by city senior council and Rukiga county MP seat hopeful Patrick Katabazi, Kamusiime Zadock deputy RDC Rukiga district, district chairperson Robert Kakwereere with his council led by the Speaker Akampurira Oscar, business tycoon and presidential advisor on Kigeizi affairs George William Kanagizi among others.
