Ngora High School’s Headteacher, Mr. Opolot Eliphaz Ewalu, has officially announced the school’s readiness to lead Ngora District’s bid to host the 2025 USSSA National Boys Football Competition.
In an interview with Wallnet News following a thorough inspection by the USSSA-PES team, Opolot highlighted the school’s commitment to meeting the required standards and securing this prestigious event for Ngora.
Opolot acknowledged challenges related to accommodations for officials, scouts, and football fans, a recurring issue for Teso Zone districts like Ngora.
The district has not hosted a national schools competition since 1999, when it last held the National Post Primary Schools Athletics Competition.
However, he stressed that the community is prepared to address these challenges by 2025.
USSSA has set clear requirements for the hosting district, including 12 grounds to accommodate the 64 participating schools, adequate hotel facilities, training grounds, a national referral hospital, and reliable access to utilities like running water. Ngora, as a district, meets the minimum requirements for grounds, and Opolot is confident in their ability to upgrade and develop the necessary facilities.
“The inspection is not about hosting the USSSA National Boys Football Competition today. It’s about being ready by 2025, and we have strong support from stakeholders, alumni, and district officials. The resources are available to ensure that all facilities meet the required standards,” Opolot explained.
Ngora National Referral Hospital has been identified as the primary healthcare facility, while Galaxy Hotel and other local establishments are being considered to meet the accommodation criteria.
Additionally, Kumi University’s two high-quality grounds, as well as Ngora High School’s existing fields, are included in the bid to host matches and ceremonies.
Ngora High School faces competition from other schools, including St. Mary’s College Rushoroza in Kabale. However, Opolot pointed out that USSSA often rotates events among regions, with the Eastern Region having last hosted the tournament in 2019.
“USSSA gives preference based on regional rotation, and we are more than ready. I assure Ugandans that Ngora High School will present a strong case, with support from alumni and district leaders,” he added.
The bid represents a significant opportunity for both the Teso Zone and Eastern Region. Opolot emphasized that Ngora High School is fully committed to showcasing its readiness to host the 2025 USSSA National Boys Football Competition, an effort that has been years in the making.
