Jinja Secondary School ready to renew rivalry at FEASSA Rugby 7s as Uganda eyes the trophy

Uganda’s newly crowned USSSA National Ball Games Two Rugby 7s champions, Jinja Secondary School, are set to renew their rivalry on the regional stage at the 21st edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSA) Rugby 7s.

The tournament, scheduled to start this weekend in Bukedea, Uganda, promises to be a thrilling competition as Jinja Secondary School aims to assert their dominance.

Jinja Secondary School will represent Uganda alongside other top teams, including London School of St. Lawrence, Dr. Obote College, and Kiira College. These schools will face stiff competition from the newly crowned KSSSA national champions Friends School, Bwake, Vihiga Boys, St. Mary’s School Yala, Kisii School from Kenya, and G S Gitisi from Rwanda.

The games will be played in a round-robin format at Mbale Rugby Union Grounds, ensuring each team faces every other in a battle for supremacy.

Led by captain Otim Walter, Jinja Secondary School is entering the tournament with high hopes. With the absence of the defending FEASSA Rugby 7s champions Koyonzo from Kenya, Jinja Secondary School sees this as a golden opportunity to claim the title.“Our dream is to lift the FEASSA trophy,” said Captain Otim Walter. “By winning it, I will be the celebrated captain who has claimed both the USSSA National Rugby 7s and FEASSA titles.We are determined to ensure this trophy remains in Uganda. This is more than just a competition; it’s a mission to stop the Kenyan dominance in Rugby 7s.”

Walter emphasized the rigorous training the team has undergone in preparation for the tournament, leaving no stone unturned in their quest for victory.Winning the FEASSA Rugby 7s title would be a significant achievement not only for Jinja Secondary School but also for the entire Busoga region. “Jinja Secondary School is a mighty school, and winning FEASSA will be a distinction for us, for Uganda, and for Busoga in general,” Walter added.

Fans and Old Boys of Jinja Secondary School are filled with pride and high expectations as they prepare to support their team. In interviews with Wallnetnews, many expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bring home the trophy, “We believe in our boys,” said one passionate supporter. “They’ve shown their strength at the national level, and now it’s time to show it to the whole of East Africa. We expect nothing less than victory.”

As the FEASSA Rugby 7s tournament approaches, all eyes will be on Jinja Secondary School as they strive to bring the trophy back to Uganda. With determination, rigorous preparation, and the support of fans and alumni, the team is poised to make history and solidify their status as champions. The rivalry with Kenyan teams adds an extra layer of excitement, promising an unforgettable competition in Bukedea.
