The atmosphere in Kachumbala and across Bukedea District was electric with celebration as Co-host Amus College School made history by becoming the first-ever school from the Teso zone to lift double trophies at the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) games. The games, which concluded on Monday in Bukedea District, saw Amus College School dominate the competition, claiming victories in both boys’ football and basketball 5×5.
Amus College School clinched the boys’ football trophy after a hard-fought 1-0 win against record holders and defending champions St. Mary’s Kitende. The decisive moment came in the 48th minute when Abdulrazak’s powerful strike found the back of the net, propelling Amus to the top of East African secondary school football. This victory marked a significant milestone, as Amus College School had previously met St. Mary’s Kitende five times, with Kitende often coming out on top. The win was particularly sweet after their previous encounters in the FEASSA finals in 2023, where St. Mary’s Kitende won on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
In addition to their football success, Amus College School also lifted the basketball 5×5 trophy beating Laiser Hill Academy of Kenya 54-51, further solidifying their dominance at this year’s FEASSA games. The school’s victory in basketball was a testament to their all-around athletic prowess, and it marked a historic double for the Teso zone school.
Mwalimu Nimrod Kintu, the head coach of Amus College School, expressed immense pride in his team’s achievement. Speaking to Wallnetnews, he said, “This victory is a testament to the hard work and determination of our players. We knew it would be tough, but the boys showed great character and resilience. To lift the trophy here in Bukedea, in front of our home supporters, is an unforgettable moment.”
On the other side, St. Mary’s Kitende head coach Male acknowledged the intense competition and congratulated Amus College School on their well-deserved win. “It was a tough match, and both teams had their chances. Unfortunately, we couldn’t convert ours, and Amus took their opportunity. We’ll go back, analyze our performance, and come back stronger,” he remarked.
The victory sent waves of joy through Bukedea District, with fans flooding the streets in celebration. In interviews with Wallnetnews, local supporters expressed their pride and excitement. “This is a historic moment for us. Amus College School has put Bukedea on the map, and we couldn’t be prouder,” said one jubilant fan. Another added, “Watching our school win not just one, but two trophies in this prestigious competition is a dream come true. We knew they had it in them, and they’ve made us all very proud.”
As the celebrations continue, the success of Amus College School at the FEASSA games will be remembered as a defining moment in the history of sports in Bukedea District and the entire Teso region.
