The inaugural edition of the Badminton Women Technical Officials Workshop concluded today, Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Sharing Hall Nsambya. The four-day event, which began on December 19th, brought together 16 women eager to enhance their skills and make a mark as technical officials in the sport of badminton.

Semugabi Harriet, the technical officer in charge of the workshop, highlighted the significance of the event. “Our goal is to see more women actively involved in badminton, not just as players but as technical officials. This workshop is a stepping stone toward achieving greater gender inclusivity in the sport,” she said.

Participants engaged in practical and theoretical sessions aimed at improving their understanding of badminton rules, officiating techniques, and decision-making during matches. The workshop also focused on instilling confidence and professionalism in the participants.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) expressed satisfaction with the success of the workshop. “This is just the beginning. We are committed to organizing more workshops to continually improve the technical skills of our officials. By investing in training programs, we aim to raise the standards of officiating and overall professionalism in Ugandan badminton,” the CEO stated.

The conclusion of the workshop marks a significant milestone in UBA’s efforts to empower women and promote inclusivity in the sport. Participants left with renewed enthusiasm, ready to contribute to the growth of badminton in Uganda.

As more workshops are planned for the future, the Uganda Badminton Association remains focused on building a robust network of qualified and skilled officials to support the sport’s development at all levels.

This initiative sets a strong foundation for increasing the participation of women in technical roles, ensuring a brighter and more inclusive future for badminton in Uganda.
