On Sunday, September 1st, 2024, FIBA Africa confirmed a new schedule for the U18 AfroBasket 2024 tournaments. The U18 Women’s AfroBasket 2024 will tip off today, Monday, September 2nd, while the men’s competition is set to begin on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2024.
Both tournaments will take place at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
According to FIBA Africa, the schedule adjustments were necessary to accommodate the arrival of participating teams, ensuring that all teams reach the venue in due time for the competition.
Despite the changes, the initial program remains largely intact, and for the first time, both tournaments will feature 24 teams, with 12 teams each in the men’s and women’s categories.
The stakes are high, particularly in the women’s tournament, as the finalists of the FIBA U18 Women’s AfroBasket 2024 will earn the opportunity to represent Africa at the 2025 FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in Czechia.
With the new schedule in place, all eyes will be on Pretoria as Africa’s top young basketball talents compete for continental glory and a chance to showcase their skills on the world stage.
