FEASSA Games 2024: President Yoweri Museveni to make history at the opening ceremony

For the first time in the history of the Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games, Uganda’s Head of State, H.E. Yoweri Museveni, will grace the opening ceremony of the 21st edition of the FEASSA Games.

This historic event will take place on Sunday, August 18th, 2024, at Bukedea Comprehensive School’s newly constructed stadium. The games, which will be co-hosted by Amus College School, promise to be a significant moment for the region and the nation.

This year’s games are not just another sporting event; they mark a monumental occasion for the Teso Zone and the people of Bukedea. For the first time, the head of state will attend the opening ceremony of the FEASSA Games, an event that has never happened before. This is a clear indication that the Ugandan government is committed to promoting sports, particularly at the school level.

According to Event Timeline; Friday, August 16th: Arrival of all participating teams, Saturday, August 17th: Verification exercise for all teams and Sunday, August 18th: Opening ceremony, presided over by the president of Uganda  H.E. Yoweri Museveni, at Bukedea Comprehensive School’s stadium.

The games will conclude at Amus College School, which has been designated to host the closing ceremony.
Prof. Jonas Gumisiriza, speaking to Wallnetnews, expressed his excitement about the historic nature of this event, “Hosting the competition in Uganda, and more so first in Eastern Uganda, is a very big opportunity for us as the Teso Zone and Bukedea people. We call on fans to turn up in big numbers and drum up support for Uganda’s school representatives. This will help us fight hard to retain the overall trophy.”

Fans across Uganda and particularly in the Teso Zone are buzzing with excitement at the prospect of the president attending the opening ceremony. In interviews with Wallnetnews, many expressed their pride and anticipation:

Historical Significance: “This is a momentous occasion for us. Having the president at the opening ceremony is something we never imagined. It shows that the government values sports, and it’s an honor for Bukedea and the entire Teso Zone,” said a local resident.

Boosting Morale: “The presence of the president will definitely boost the morale of our athletes. Knowing that the head of state is watching will push them to give their best performance,” commented a sports enthusiast.

Expectations for Uganda’s Performance: “With this level of support, I believe our schools will rise to the occasion. We are confident that Uganda can retain the overall trophy, especially with the home advantage,” noted a fan from Kampala.

As the FEASSA Games 2024 approach, the stage is set for a historic and memorable event. The participation of President Yoweri Museveni in the opening ceremony not only marks a first in the history of the games but also underscores the importance of sports in Uganda.

With the support of the government and the enthusiasm of the local community, Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College School are poised to make these games a resounding success. Fans eagerly await the start of the competition, hoping that Uganda’s athletes will rise to the occasion and bring home the overall trophy.
