CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe to Visit Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in December 2024

Dr. Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), is set to tour Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in December 2024. The visit is part of CAF’s ongoing efforts to assess the readiness of stadiums and infrastructure ahead of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, scheduled to take place from February 1–28, 2025.
This edition of CHAN marks a historic moment as the tournament will, for the first time, be jointly hosted by three countries. Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, all members of the CECAFA region, will collaborate in showcasing their capacity to deliver a world-class footballing event.
The CHAN tournament is unique to African football, as it exclusively features players competing in their respective national leagues, providing a platform for showcasing domestic talent.
During his visit, Dr. Motsepe will Inspect Stadiums and Infrastructure: Evaluate the progress and readiness of facilities in the three host countries, Host the CAF Executive Committee in Tanzania: This meeting will address various pressing issues, including Updates on CHAN 2024 preparations.
Discussion of the pathway to achieving CAF’s ambitious US$1 billion investment in African football over the next eight years, initially introduced during the CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Ethiopia.
A briefing on joint governance and audit committee investigations into allegations of governance non-compliance within the CAF Secretariat.
The CAF President is expected to attend the prestigious CAF Awards on December 16th, 2024, in Morocco.
The 2024 CHAN will be the eighth edition of the tournament and the third time it is hosted within the CECAFA Zone, following Sudan in 2011 and Rwanda in 2016
This joint hosting further highlights the region’s growing stature in African football and its ability to contribute to the continent’s sporting excellence.
The tournament will serve as an important milestone for CAF’s vision of promoting and investing in football across Africa. It aligns with CAF’s strategic focus on improving governance, enhancing infrastructure, and fostering greater professionalism in football on the continent.
