In response to calls from numerous CAF Member Association Presidents, Zonal Union Presidents, and other key stakeholders, CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has agreed to run for re-election in the CAF Presidential Elections scheduled for March 2025.
Dr. Motsepe’s decision comes nearly four years after his initial election on March 12, 2021, during the 43rd CAF General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco. At the time, he was elected unopposed after his fellow candidates, Augustin Senghor, Ahmed Yahya, and Jacques Anouma, withdrew in favor of a unity stance championed by African football leaders.
Dr. Motsepe, a renowned South African businessman, philanthropist, and longstanding football enthusiast, brought his expertise as President of Mamelodi Sundowns since 2003 to the African football scene. He is also the founder of African Rainbow Minerals and African Rainbow Capital and co-founder of the Motsepe Foundation with Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised the unity of Africa’s football leaders at the 2021 Assembly, and Dr. Motsepe has since worked to advance African football’s global prominence. His vision includes expanding grassroots initiatives, enhancing the professional landscape, and driving revenue opportunities to strengthen the sport across Africa.
